Travel Diaries: Amalfi Coast 2019
In continuation of my past holiday in Italy, from Milan, we took a train from Milano Centrale to Naples. After arriving in Naples, for a few hours we explored a bit of the city before our connecting train to… Salerno, Amalfi Positano. The Amalfi Coast of Italy (again) has been a place I so desperately wanted to visit and I’m so grateful to have it checked off my bucket list. Let’s explore some of my recommendations for Salerno and Amalfi Positano.
Top Places to Visit in Amalfi Positano:
Salerno- we stayed in an apartment (AirBnB) in this province along the Amalfi Coast. Salerno has a rich and vibrant past, dating back to pre-historic times. The site has been one of the most important and strategic ports on the Mediterranean sea, yielding a rich Greco-Roman heritage.
Maiori- next we traveled by ferry from Salerno to another province along the coast, Maiori. Here you will find more bars and access to the most beautiful beaches ever! t’s a popular holiday destination, with sheer cliffs and a rugged shoreline dotted with small beaches and pastel-colored fishing villages. Minori and Maiori are located within a couple of kilometers of each other, and you will find the stunning view of hill top homes of Amalfi Positano.
Amazing Seafood Restaurants- if you love seafood, then visiting any restaurant in the Amalfi Coast will bring you decadent pastas cooked with fresh crab, shrimp and lobster! You can also enjoy clams, oysters or mussels drenched in garlic and olive oil *mouth watering perfection.
Authentic Italian Limoncello- As you enjoy your seafood meal, sip on authentic Limoncello by the seaside. The perfect way to spend your Italian holiday is to drink this Italian lemon liqueur mainly produced in Southern Italy.
Relaxing Day On the Beach- lay down your towel, and spend the whole day tanning on the sand! Enjoy some light refreshments such as limoncello and some fresh fruits from the town’s market. I visited Salerno in mid-May, so I braved the cold waters, and went for a light dip into Mediterranean sea.
The Amalfi Coast in Southern Italy is a beautiful, relaxing destination with the most breathtaking views of colorful fishing villages. A funny story about my time in Maiori, my friend and I almost missed the very last ferry boat back to Salerno. As the sun was setting on the beautiful shores of Maiori, we started our way back to the dock where supposedly our boat was located. We were trying to ask about the the ticket booth where the exact location of the our boat was and through miscommunication, the salespeople thought we wanted to have our tickets printed. As time was ticking, and only a few minutes until the last ferry was to leave, we decided to run across the dock as people watched! It was the funniest way to end our night in the Amalfi Coast, but fortunately we made it! Once we finished enjoying the sunset views on the ferry, we spent our last night drinking some more Aperol Spritz on the Bay of Salerno while listening to great music.
Italy is a wonderful country to visit and it is very easy to navigate and travel around the country by train. Italy’s train system is absolutely superb, where you can travel from Tuscany, to Rome, Milan and finally the southern part of Italy, Amalfi Positano!n
